Riot Games recently altered how RR gains and losses are calculated to address issues associated with smurfing in Valorant. Valorant players are divided into three tiers based on how well they play the game: Iron, Silver, and Platinum. Valorant players had expressed fear that their ranks would hard reset between episodes. However, the developers have assured players that this will not occur and there will be a squishing effect that reduces rank gains.
Rank progress-Valorant ranking system
When playing ranked matches in Valorant, your rank will increase or decrease depending on how many wins and losses you accumulate because your matchmaking rating (MMR) increases with each victory and decreases with every defeat.
Your career tab provides a useful way to monitor your rank progress. Your current rank, RR points, and line graph display your progression over time; with 10-50 RR awarded upon winning ranked matches.
Riot has updated its system of rank progression in Valorant with Episode 4. In the past, you needed ten unranked or “placement” matches before unlocking ranked games – these helped the game identify your first MMR and performance ranking for competitive matches. Rank-lock system
Many online multiplayer games feature a rank decay mechanic to prevent players from abusing competitive matchmaking systems. Also, keep things fair for all involved. Valorant does not feature this feature. Instead, upon returning from an extended absence, you must compete for a placement match to reenter.
Placement matches are designed to measure your Match Making Rating (MMR), determining where you stand in competitive matches. MMR serves as an indicator of skill level on an invisible ladder. These victories move it higher while losses reduce it further.
Placement matches can be played with friends. But if your group contains players of disparate skill sets, the system may require that each of you play alone to reduce the risk of smurfing and reduce queue times. Placement matches
Before beginning to play ranked games in Valorant, it is necessary first to complete five placement matches. These matches will reveal your competitive rank and help determine where to begin playing ranked Valorant games. Your competitive rank is determined by a hidden matchmaking rating (MMR). It is though Riot has yet to reveal this system for Valorant. It should resemble those used for CS: GO and Overwatch.
At first, emphasis will be placed on personal performance. Top players may quickly increase due to how their hidden MMR adjusts based on results. However, your rank could drop substantially if you perform poorly in placement games.
Riot has taken steps to prevent players from skipping ranks. It is by mandating that all Valorant competitive tiers be filled by competent players at least once every fourteen days.
