Recently, a new type of cyber attack was found by security researcher Paul Ducklin. This cyber-attack is causing quite a trouble through popular social media Instagram and email. Furthermore, according to Paul Ducklin (he is a cyber security researcher at Sophos), a new phishing attack is causing quite a trouble for Instagram users.

The most common target of this cyber attack is Instagram influencers and creators. As we know, most of the creators attach their contact information to their profiles. Now, hacker’s are taking advantage of that information and stealing their data. Cybercriminals send a fake email to those Instagram users and tell them about copyright infringement.

The process of cybercriminals is, First, they send a fake email and tell the user that they violate a copyright agreement. After that, they ask to “prove innocence” by following their process. Furthermore, To prove their innocence they need to click on a link and fill in the information.

Here is the message that users receive through email:

 “Hello, …We recently received a complaint about a post on your Instagram. Your post has been reported as infringing copyright. Your account will be removed if no objection is made to the copyrighted work. If you think this determination is incorrect, please fill out the objection form from the link below .”

Furthermore, they also give a special link that redirects you to their special Instagram Copyright Violation Scam page. This page is the face and replication of the original Instagram server. Moreover, they also use a shorter URL to hide their original link which is also quite suspicious. The ending page is the worst part of the series where they steal your private information.

How to Protect Yourself? 

Well, the first and only thing to remember is not to click on any of their party links. For common people like us, it is quite hard to tell if that link is ethical or not. Moreover, even if you click on that link, make sure not to give any details which need to be private. For example, location, passwords, and more…
